May 1, 2015 First Friday (1st Birthday, Coffee and Flowers)

Posted on

April was the busiest we have been since we started rolling. It was also a tremendous amount of fun! We want to thank everyone who helped by volunteering for our 3 main events: blood drive, park cleanup and food bank. We certainly couldn’t do what we do without the support of our loyal trikesters!

The First Friday for the month of May also happens to be our very First Birthday! It’s hard to believe that it was just a year ago that we set these 3 wheels in motion. We launched this little tricycle of kindness from Insomnia Coffee Company on May 1st, 2014 with free coffees and free flowers.

launch day

Since that first day we have personally “triked” over 3,800 people with simple acts of kindness. These include giving away free train passes, lunches, candy galore, dog toys, root beer floats, movie tickets, grocery gift cards, children’s snacks to a family shelter, goodies to fire fighters, pajamas to foster kids, cards and snacks to overseas military, toys and strollers to patients at Randall Children’s Hospital and so much more. And all along the way, we have been overwhelmed by your wonderful support through messages, donations, social media likes and “trikes” of your own. We appreciate every one of you who have hopped aboard this little red trike.

We would like to honor our very first day and set “coffee & flowers” as the trike theme for May. It’s one of the easiest and most popular ways to share kindness and joy to those around you.

Here is a little gem of a story from Henry’s mom, Marla.

Henry knew my love for coffee. When we were out driving he would say we should go to “Black Rock” or “Coffee Rush” (two of my go-to drive-thru stops). He would yell for me to get coffee and sometimes be mad when I didn’t stop. Henry would help make my morning coffee. He could sign “coffee” using sign language. If I mentioned I was tired, he would sign “Mom needs coffee”.  He never got a treat at a coffee stop except when we were at the beach. It was a tradition that after our time on the beach, we would find the boys some “warm cocoa”. It didn’t matter how hot the day was at the beach, we would get them their cocoa and Lucas and I would get a coffee. While it may be my addiction, I love how coffee almost always brings a smile to my face. I think Henry knew that too.

Our “call to action” for the month of May is centered around COFFEE & FLOWERS.

*purchase the coffee for the person behind you

*give a coffee gift card or flowers to a friend, teacher or someone who needs a smile

*leave flowers at someone’s desk, doorstep, car or on a park bench

*purchase a corsage or boutanier at a florist for a student going to prom

*help someone in your neighborhood weed their flower bed

Whatever you choose to do make sure you attach a trike ticket so the recipient can pay it forward. And please post your photos to encourage us and inspire others.

The first 50 people to go to our contact us page and type “happy birthday” in the comment box (along with your mailing address) will receive free trike tickets. We have also partnered with Insomnia Coffee and will provide free scones on May 1st at the Baseline location in Hillsboro (while supplies last).

We can’t thank you enough for helping us keep Henry’s tricycle rolling.

KINDNESS…that’s how we roll!
